Today I went to the Carnival@Marina with my parents.
It was a tiring trip, with a combination of many unpleasant things all taking place at the same time.
First of all, I am sick. I have been sneezing and my nose have been running non-stop since this morning, and I had a sore sore throat. Mum says it muz be the dozens of longans i ate the nite before, possible, cos longan is heaty fruit, not good to eat too many. Anyway, overdose of anything is no good, so serves me right =(
Then, it was the trip itself... we were there too tooo toooooo early.........
Though the whole carnival was supposed to start from 10am onwards, the only event that starts at this time is Auto Drag, and my parents are not interested in cars at all. The main show starts at 5pm, though programmes like Total Defence exhibition is in the afternoon. Okie, that's fine, but I still do not think we need to be that early, almost the first one to be there!
Mum explained why we need to be early: they want to be back home in time for the 《天龙八部》which starts at 9pm. Alright, fine, that's reasonable, but to set off from home right after breakfast is still toooooooo early.... my Kiasu parents, haiz...
Before we set off, I actually checked the programme schedule and suggested that since there's still more than enough time, maybe we can go visit the New National Library first before going to the carnival. I just didn't want to walk around the island in such a hot weather, and today is really hotter than any other day (I may not wrong, cos have been hiding in air con room during normal working days, but at least, that's how i felt, today is hot, full-stop). I seldom sweat like that and I hated the sticky feeling. MM knows that very well *wink* And when one feels frustrated and irritated, nothing will be enjoyable. I was grumbling inside me (dare not say it out, cos scared Dad will be unahppy).
But last min, Dad changed his mind, and decided to go for the carnival first. They wanted to wait for the Zheng Ho exhibition next month before paying the new lib a visit. And alas, I made a big mistake which added to the unhappy experience. I mistaken Marina South as the space besides the Esplanade! Everyone knows how far it is to walk from City Hall MRT to Esplanade, imagine how malu i looked standing at the empty space there. Then how? By then, I had used up 2 packets of tissues and was still tearing non stop, I didn't want to walk back to take the MRT again! So we took a cab, thinking at least it would save us the time and energy to walk back to the train station and take the bus after that.
We must be really down on our luck. We were stopped by the police halfway, cos the Taxi dun have the official car label to enter the compound, damn! We had to talk 10 mins to the bus stop to take Bus 400! What's the diffc then? I dun noe. The whole thing never start right from the beginning, and all my mood was spoilt before even reaching that stupid place.
We were given a map at the entrance but I think the person who draw up the map shouldl be hammered. Marina South is soooo damn big! Every "village" is far far apart that we can only see the tents from afar, yet they look so close to each other on the silly map. And because we were too early, many stalls were not set up yet. All the staffs there were busying preparing for the Opening Ceremony by Mr Nathan at 6pm.
I think I have to stop my grumbling and complains here, cos this blog will goes on and on if i continues. MM will be hearing it for the second time cos I just spent half an hour rattering about all these to him (thanx for the patience dear).
Now the lesson learnt.... Never be too early for any event, unless it's a first-come-first-serve one. The "early birds gets the worms" theory doesn't apply to the former scenario. And also, the gist of any event will always be after the Offical Opening Ceremony (like tml nite, there'll be F.I.R in the concert but I won't want to go there again).
For those of you who are still enthusiatic about paying that carnival a visit, the suggested minimum touring time needed is 4hours but I tell u, it'll take longer than that, I took 5 hours to briefly covered most parts before dragging myself home, so be prepared... dun say I never warn you first...
And am so dead tired now with piles of work undone (suppsoed to do some today), but one thing is good (the only good thing to feel happy about) --> it is a family day =)
